Christmas Mini Sessions in the Sophia Room at Glasshouse Studios
Let me show you what a session here actually looks like, and why it works so well for everyone from a couple to a brand-new baby to three generations in one frame.
Every year, one studio ends up on more of my Christmas mini galleries than any other: the Sophia Room at Glasshouse Studios in Richmond Hill. I keep coming back to it for a simple reason — it already looks like the room you'd want your family remembered in. When you book a Christmas mini session with me, so much of whether the photos feel warm or flat comes down to the space. Sophia makes that part easy. I'm Jo, I photograph families across Toronto and the GTA, and this is the room I'd point most families toward for their holiday photos.
What is the Sophia Room at Glasshouse Studios like?
Sophia is a bright, classic studio — about 650 square feet of ornate white walls, a statement fireplace, chandeliers, and the kind of refined architectural detail you don't usually get in a rental space. For the holidays it's dressed with a flocked, snow-dusted tree, deep red velvet accents, a soft white sofa, wrapped gifts, and candlelight on the mantel.
Two things make it photograph beautifully. First, the light is soft and even, so nobody is squinting and skin tones stay natural. Second, the room has real depth — a fireplace on one wall, the tree in the corner, a mirror catching the chandelier — so I can move you around and every setup looks like a different photo, even in twenty minutes.
Who are Sophia Room mini sessions good for?
Honestly, almost everyone — which is why I use it so much. Across the galleries from this room you'll see:
Families, from two people to a full sofa of five, with grandparents in the mix
Couples who just want one nice photo of the two of them by the tree
Babies and toddlers, including a lot of first-Christmas sessions
Expecting parents — the elegant, soft styling suits a maternity photo really well

The room is roomy enough for up to about ten people, so extended-family photos work here without feeling cramped.
How do I photograph a Christmas mini session?
My style is documentary — candid and story-first, not stiff and posed. I'd rather catch your toddler actually reaching for an ornament, or the half-second your kids start laughing at each other, than line everyone up and count to three. My background is in weddings, where I shoot as a Fearless Photographers and WPJA member, and I bring that same eye for real moments to a twenty-minute mini.
In practice that means I'll give you enough direction that you never feel lost — where to sit, how to hold the baby, what to do with your hands — and then I get out of the way and let the moment happen. Kids don't need to "perform." The gifts, the tree, and a couple of gentle prompts do most of the work.
What should you wear for photos in the Sophia Room?
Because the set is white, cream, and deep red, the outfits that look best lean into that. A few things that consistently work here:
Deep, rich tones — burgundy, forest green, navy, plum, warm neutrals
Coordinate, don't match — pick two or three colours and let everyone pull from them, rather than identical outfits
Soft fabrics and a little texture — knits, velvet, wool — over big logos or bright neon
A red accent — a bow, a dress, a tie — ties a person to the set beautifully

When are the 2026 Sophia Room dates, and how much is it?
For 2026, my Sophia Room mini date at Glasshouse Studios is Saturday, December 6. If that fills up, I also shoot at Glasshouse in the Amalia Room on December 5 and December 19 — a very similar look at the same Richmond Hill location.
Each session is $299 (a $149 booking fee to reserve your time, and $150 after the shoot). That includes a 20-minute session, 20 edited images, delivery within about 7 days, and a private online gallery to download and share from. No hidden charges.
These dates genuinely do sell out — the Sophia date and the December weekend slots are always the first to go — so if the room is on your list, it's worth booking early rather than hoping in late November.

Absolutely — the room holds up to about ten people, so multi-generational photos work well here. But as we have a limited time of 20 minutes, it is advised to book 2 back to back slots for a group larger than 5-6 people. If you want back-to-back slots for a larger group, just ask.

That's the plan, honestly. I photograph the movement — the reaching, the giggling, the unwrapping. You don't need a perfectly behaved child; you need a photographer who knows how to work with a real one.
